AQUIS COVID-19 Update: Resources to Ensure Hygienic HVAC Systems

AQUIS continues to work with facilities teams across the U.S. to create clean, hygienic air handlers by abating pathogenic growth on interior surfaces as well as providing deep cleaning through coil restoration, removing biofilms that can harbor dangerous bacteria and viruses deep within the coils. With many buildings experiencing very low occupancy levels, now is the time to act. By addressing the ever-present biological activity in a proactive way, we can assist in addressing building wellness and performance adding to the comfort and health of the occupants. ASHRAE has released the following information to help address questions and COVID-19 concerns with respect to the operation and maintenance of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning systems:
  • The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Response Resources from ASHRAE and Others is intended to assist building owners, engineers and operators on “how to best protect occupants from exposure to the virus, in particular in relation to airborne particles that might be circulated by HVAC systems.”
  • ASHRAE’s Position Document on Airborne Infectious Diseases was originally written in 2014 in response to the second wave of the “H1N1 influenza A” pandemic of 2009. This document was reaffirmed by ASHRAE on February 5, 2020 as a resource for novel coronavirus, COVID-19.
In addition, ASHRAE emphasizes that building engineers “play a key role in reducing disease transmission that occurs in buildings”, and that “commissioning, maintenance, and proper operation of buildings, and, in particular, systems intended to control airborne infectious disease, are necessary for buildings and systems to be effective”. The health and safety of AQUIS employees, customers and fellow members of the community remains our top priority. We’re following CDC recommendations in our offices to mitigate risk and inhibit potential spread of the virus, and we’re also following OSHA’s recommendations for enhanced health protocols for our employees. Our field teams continue with AQUIS AHU refurbishment and restoration in buildings and facilities where decontamination and AHU restorative efforts are currently underway, and where our specialty services are needed. Our Sales and Operations teams are here to assist you to discuss any emergent concerns within your building’s HVAC systems where AQUIS may be of assistance. The coverage map on our website will help direct you to the appropriate AQUIS representative in your area who can best serve you. For general questions, please contact us here or call 888-494-1191.
