Predictive Maintenance

With coil maintenance historically being a reactive measure, SmartCoil’s advanced analytics enable a predictive maintenance approach. This allows for the implementation of processes like Condition Based Monitoring (CbM) and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) to enhance overall system reliability.

BEYOND PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

  • Coil cleaning service is traditionally deployed as a reactive or preventive maintenance approach.
  • A reactive maintenance or “wait until it fails” approach often leads to coils being serviced far too infrequently, which increases operating costs and exposes coils to irreparable damage that may significantly limit coil service life.
  • Preventive maintenance may address these issues but service frequencies are determined arbitrarily, and coils may be being serviced far more frequently than required.
  • SmartCoil enables Condition Based Monitoring (CbM) which ensures that coils are serviced at the ideal frequency.

CONDITION-BASED MONITORING

  • Condition-based monitoring (CbM) is a maintenance strategy that monitors equipment in real time in order to predict failures and schedule maintenance.
  • SmartCoil enables CbM for coils by measuring in real-time the actual fouling level and the true performance of the coil.
  • SmartCoil alerts the customer and/or service provider in advance of when coil cleaning will be required.

RELIABILITY MAINTENANCE

  • Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) is a process that focuses on the function and primary failure modes of equipment in order to ensure its consistent and reliable operation.
  • The U.S. Department of Energy study* says that a predictive maintenance approach offers a 43% overall cost savings versus a tradition “wait until it fails” approach.
  • SmartCoil’s unique analytic capabilities enable RCM for HVAC coils by monitoring the key failure modes and enabling customers to act as required to preserve HVAC coil function.

CONDITION-BASED MONITORING

  • SmartCoil’s algorithm analyzes input from 8+ sensors to calculate the Coefficient of Thermal Resistance (R) in real time.
  • Using AI machine learning, SmartCoil can predict the future value of R as well as the ideal cleaning frequency for the coil.
  • Beyond the coil, SmartCoil also uses machine learning to provide insight into future performance of other components, including blowers, filters and waterflow.
